1 Samuel 1,24-28
Zur Lesung Der kleine Samuel, von dem hier erzählt wird, sollte sein Leben lang Israel „richten“, d. h. dem Volk den Willen Gottes verkünden und es mit Weisheit und Treue beraten. Die Wichtigkeit dieses letzten „Richters“ von Israel wird schon durch die Tatsache angezeigt, dass seine Kindheitsgeschichte erzählt wird. Samuel war von seiner Mutter Hanna erbetet und zugleich dem Herrn versprochen worden. Noch als kleines Kind wurde er dem Dienst am Heiligtum in Schilo geweiht. Für Gott gibt es kein zu jung und kein zu alt. An den Lobgesang der Hanna (1 Sam 2, im Anschluss an unsere Lesung) erinnert stellenweise das Magnifikat, das Maria sang, als sie ihre Base Elisabet besuchte (Evangelium).
